Fertility Counselling

Building your family

Having a child through fertility treatments can be a very challenging and stressful process. Infertility affects 1 in 6 individuals in Canada. You are not alone and there is help available.  Consultation with a social worker may include exploring the experience of the reproductive journey, discussion about the ethical considerations surrounding disclosure to offspring and other family members/friends, feelings regarding genetic connection to donor conceived child, and the selection of possible donors or gestational carriers.

Individuals /Couples going through fertility treatments may be experiencing a variety of reactions such as:

  • anger

  • sadness

  • fear about the treatments being unsuccessful

  • depression/anxiety

  • financial worries

  • relationship issues such as communication and intimacy

  • frustration

  • shame/guilt

  • withdrawal from family and friends

  • grief/loss and more

Counselling reports for third party reproduction are a requirement for the fertility clinics in order to be informed about the impact of the decisions you may be making during your family building.  There are times when treatment outcomes are not successful and many individuals make the decisions to pause treatments. In addition, some individuals may elect to living child-free.  Counselling is available to support you through your journey.  Amrit assists clients with self-care strategies, understanding of triggers, development of personal boundaries, while establishing effective coping mechanisms.  The counselling is provided for same-sex couples, solo parents, intended parents, open and closed identity donors, fertility preservation and gestational carriers.

Amrit brings a wealth of experience in this area and has received certificates in fertility counselling from the American Society of Reproductive Medicine.
